Service Schedule Week of 3/20/16

Posted in Church Schedule Change on March 21, 2016 by readerjohn

Don’t forget to check the Church service calendar monthly (note the “Monthly Calendar” pick list at the top). “Extra” services aren’t always announced Sunday morning.

This week, in addition to the usual Lenten Presanctified Liturgy at 6:30 Wednesday, we have two extra liturgies:

  1. 6:30 Thursday, Annunciation is anticipated. Yes, when God became a child, he gestated in the Theotokos for 9 months. No, reading OrthodoxWiki isn’t just as good as coming to the Liturgy. Bonus: fish, wine and oil are allowed on this feast Friday (but doncha think you should go to the Liturgy if you want to relax the fast? Just sayin’.)
  2. 9:45 Saturday, Soul Saturday 2.

Father does not anticipate that the snow will be cleared, and the footing is treacherous until it’s cleared.

More Weather Schedule Changes

Dear Ones in Christ,

Owing to the fact that we are not even “dug out” yet and it’s still snowing, plus the extended forecast includes snow up until 3 PM, I am canceling Vespers for this evening.  Driving conditions, according to local sources anyway, are spotty at best; most recommendations are “no travel” unless emergency dictates the need.

Since we did not have Liturgy today, there can be no Presanctified Liturgy on Wednesday.  In lieu of that Liturgy, I will serve the Akathist to the Holy Cross, beginning at 6:30 PM, followed by our Lenten supper and Bible study.  The reading for that initial study is today’s Gospel lesson:  John 1:43-51.

I sincerely hope that all of you are warm and safe! As I’ve said, we will not be plowing out here at the Hobbit Hole until the snow stops, and we still do our clearing the old-fashioned way–with shovels. It might take us awhile!

Unworthy priest,

Fr. Gregory

Matins and Liturgy cancelled March 1

Due to the accumulation of snow, the continuing snow and forecast for more accumulations, and police travel advisories, Matins and Liturgy this morning are cancelled.

A decision will be made later about Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers this evening (5:30, I believe).

Father Gregory has cancelled Liturgies for Sunday February 1 and Monday February 2 based on the continuing forecasts. Stay safe and get out your Typica for a little family church.

Monday Liturgy Cancelled

Posted in Church Schedule Change on March 31, 2014 by readerjohn

Fr. Gregory made a mistake in scheduling the Liturgy for Monday March 31, as we are only to have Presanctified Liturgies on weekdays during Great Lent, with the exception of the Feast of the Annunciation.  So the Liturgy for Monday, for St. Mary of Egypt, is cancelled.
